Overused Phrases on Online Dating

If you want to improve your online dating profile, you need to get rid of phrases that are unoriginal or overused. You're probably guilty of at least one of these, so listen up.

#1.)  "I can't believe I'm doing this."  It's not all that shocking to date online anymore, so this makes you seem a little out of it.  And it suggests that you're better or different than everyone ELSE online:  Because everyone you meet this way is in the same boat.

#2.)  "I'm tired of the bar scene."  Everyone says it, and if you think about it, it's probably not even accurate: Did you meet a lot of people at bars in the first place?

--What you're trying to say is that you're taking a more proactive approach to meeting someone.  A better option would be to make it positive, like, "I'd like to meet new people outside my usual circle."

#3.)  "I like moonlit walks on the beach."  No you don't.  Nobody ACTUALLY does this.  And it's not even funny in an ironic way either.

#4.)  "I like quiet evenings by the fireplace sipping wine."  It's another cliché, and even if it's true, it's going to come off as pretentious or boring.

#5.)  Emoticons.  Adding a smiley face after every other sentence is annoying.  If you're not sure someone will get your joke without using them, don't make the joke.  And you can forget about "LOL."  Unless you're a teenager.
